Ghost 2/3/Pro Owner’s Handbook

The complete owner’s handbook, as supplied in print with every installation. Customer aftercare edition by Elite Car Security. Ghost is a product of Autowatch.

Your vehicle is now protected

Thank you for choosing Elite Car Security. Your Autowatch Ghost has been installed, coded to your vehicle and registered with TASSA. It works quietly in the background — there is nothing to switch on, nothing to carry and nothing to remember beyond your own sequence.

Your installation record — vehicle, registration, install date, engineer, TASSA reference, service button and PIN change control — is filled in on page 2 of your printed handbook. Keep it with your vehicle documents at home, never in the car.

1. Service mode — garages, MOTs, valeting

Service mode temporarily suspends the Ghost so the vehicle can be started without your sequence. Your sequence stays private.

Entering service mode

  1. Switch the ignition on.
  2. Enter your current disarm sequence and wait for the two disarm indication flashes.
  3. Press the service button five times. Five indication flashes confirm that service mode is active.

The vehicle can now be started normally, with no sequence required. Hand it over as you would any other car.

Restoring protection

With the ignition on, enter your current disarm sequence. Two flashes confirm that full protection has been restored.

Remember: in service mode the vehicle is not protected — restore it as soon as the car is back with you. As a safety net, the Ghost re-arms itself automatically after around 30 minutes of continuous driving.

2. How the Ghost protects your vehicle

The Ghost is an electronic immobiliser that communicates with your vehicle over its existing CAN data network — the same network the manufacturer’s own systems use.

No wiring cut. It reads and sends data on the existing network rather than being spliced into the loom. Your warranty is unaffected, and the vehicle can be returned to standard with no trace.

Nothing to find. There are no key fobs, no LEDs and no radio transmissions. A thief scanning for a signal finds nothing, because there is no signal to find.

Nothing to steal. Because the Ghost is disarmed by a sequence you enter on buttons the vehicle already has, there is no extra fob or tag that can be taken from your pocket or copied.

In short: even with your genuine key in hand, the engine will not start until the correct sequence has been entered.

3. What it defeats

Relay attack. One thief holds a device near your front door to pick up the signal from your key indoors; another stands at the car and receives it. The car unlocks and would normally start. With a Ghost fitted, it unlocks — and goes no further.

Key cloning. A blank key is programmed to the vehicle, often through the diagnostic port. The clone works exactly like your own key — and is stopped by exactly the same sequence.

ECU replacement. Some thieves swap the engine control unit for one they have already programmed. The Ghost is not the ECU, so replacing it changes nothing.

Tow and go. The Ghost stops a vehicle being driven away. It cannot stop one being lifted onto a truck — which is why we recommend pairing it with a tracker.

4. Starting your vehicle

  1. Unlock and enter the vehicle as normal.
  2. Switch the ignition on, or press the start button, as usual.
  3. Enter your sequence — each press within about two seconds of the last — and watch for two flashes.
  4. Start the engine.

If the engine will not start: the sequence has not been accepted. Switch the ignition off, then begin again from the start. There is no penalty for a wrong attempt.

Once you are moving: the Ghost stays disarmed for the whole journey. Stalling, restarting or switching off briefly at the fuel pump will not require the sequence again while the vehicle remains in use.

5. How it re-arms

The Ghost re-arms itself. There is no button to press and nothing to remember when you walk away from the vehicle. Once you have switched off and left the car, it returns to its protected state on its own. The next person to try to start the engine — including you — will need the sequence.

If you need to hand the car over — a garage, a valet, a family member — you do not have to give away your sequence. Use service mode instead (section 1).

6. Changing your sequence

Change your sequence whenever you wish — and always if you think somebody has watched you enter it. It can be any rhythm from 4 to 20 presses.

  1. Ignition on. Enter your current sequence and wait for the two flashes.
  2. Press and hold the accelerator to the floor, then enter your current sequence again. On some vehicles a different control takes the place of the throttle — see your installation record.
  3. When the indicator flashes once every three seconds, the system is listening. Release the pedal.
  4. Enter your new sequence and wait for three flashes, then enter the same sequence again.
  5. Two flashes — saved. Four flashes — not accepted; switch the ignition off and start again.

Rather we did it with you? Get in touch and we will arrange it. Selling or part-exchanging? Speak to us first — the Ghost can be removed cleanly, and often transferred to your next vehicle.

7. Driver recognition

Some installations can be paired with a smartphone or tag, so the immobiliser recognises you as you approach. Where this is fitted, the vehicle disarms automatically when your paired phone or tag is present, and falls back to your sequence when it is not. Driver recognition is a convenience, not a replacement — keep your sequence in mind; it is what gets you moving if the phone is unavailable.

8. Pairing a phone or tag — Ghost 2/Pro

Pairing your phone

  1. Install the Autowatch Ghost app and tap + to add your vehicle.
  2. Enter pairing mode: ignition on, enter your current sequence and wait for the two flashes. Press and hold the accelerator to the floor and enter your current sequence again.
  3. Press the service button once.
  4. Enter the six-digit code when the app asks.
  5. Your phone now disarms the vehicle automatically when aboard.

Pairing a tag

  1. Enter pairing mode exactly as above.
  2. Press the service button twice.
  3. Hold the button on the tag and insert its battery.
  4. The tag flashes, then shows solid red when paired — the vehicle also gives an indication flash to confirm.

Carry tags separately: never leave a tag in the vehicle, and keep it apart from the vehicle key — together they hand a thief everything at once.

9. Pairing a phone or tag — Ghost 3

  1. Enter pairing mode exactly as for the Ghost 2/Pro above.
  2. Press the accelerator three times and wait for the indication flash.
  3. Press the accelerator once for a phone, or twice for a tag, then wait for the indication flash.
  4. Press once to pair — or twice to delete an existing pairing.
  5. For a phone, enter the Bluetooth pairing code when the app asks. For a tag, hold the button on the tag and insert its battery.
  6. Wait for the confirmation indication — pairing is complete.

Two presses at step 4 delete an existing pairing — useful when replacing a lost phone or tag. Call us if unsure.

10. Common questions

Will it drain my battery? No. The Ghost draws a negligible current.

Does it affect my warranty? No. Nothing is cut and no manufacturer system is altered.

Can a garage still service the car? Yes — use service mode.

What if I forget my sequence? Call us. We can reset it for you.

Does it work with stop-start? Yes. Normal driving is unaffected.

Will my insurer recognise it? Your installation is TASSA registered — tell your insurer.

11. Warranty & support

Your installation. Every Ghost we fit is installed by a TASSA-approved engineer, coded to your vehicle and logged on the TASSA register. That registration is what your insurer can verify.

Aftercare. If anything is not behaving as it should, speak to us before anyone else. We know how your vehicle was configured and can usually resolve it quickly.

Looking after it. There is no servicing, no battery to change and nothing to maintain. Use the vehicle normally.

Tell your insurer: a TASSA-registered immobiliser can affect your premium. It is worth a phone call — quote the TASSA reference from your printed handbook.

A note on discretion

The strength of the Ghost is that nobody knows it is there. We do not publish photographs of the unit or say where it sits in a vehicle, and we would ask you to do the same.
