What Is the Ghost 3?

The Ghost 3 is Autowatch’s latest CAN-bus immobiliser and the successor to the Ghost II and Ghost Pro. It works the same way the Ghost always has: before the engine will start, a unique PIN sequence has to be pressed on buttons the car already has — steering wheel controls, door switches, centre console. No PIN, no drive, even with the real key in a thief’s hand.

What’s new is the network it talks to. The Ghost 3 is built for CAN FD — the faster data bus now used on the latest models from the likes of BMW, Mercedes, Land Rover, Toyota and the VW group — which the older Ghost II can’t cover. It is TASSA-approved, fits with no cutting of the wiring loom, has no fob, no tag and no LED to give it away, and can be removed without trace.

If you’ve searched for “Ghost 3 immobiliser”, “Ghost FD” or “Ghost CAN FD”, this is the system you mean — and it’s now the Ghost we fit as standard wherever a vehicle supports it.

Why We Fit the Ghost 3 First

Same Price as the Ghost II

£499 supplied and fitted, exactly the same as the Ghost II. We always fit the highest Ghost generation your car supports — you never pay extra for the newer unit.

Future-Proof

Because it supports CAN FD, the Ghost 3 has the best chance of transferring to your next car when you change vehicle. Fit it once, keep the protection.

TASSA Registered

Every Ghost 3 we fit is registered with TASSA, with certification you can hand to your insurer, and comes with service/valet mode so a garage can drive the car without ever knowing your code.

Older or dual-CAN vehicles may still take the Ghost II or Ghost Pro instead — we’ll tell you which before you commit. Our guide to the Ghost generations explains the differences, and our immobiliser comparison puts the Ghost against the Nitro Pro and Pandora Microbot.

What It Actually Stops

Relay Theft

One thief captures your key’s signal through the front door, the other stands at the car. With a Ghost 3 fitted the doors may open — the engine stays dead without your PIN.

Stolen or Cloned Keys

Keys fished through a letterbox, taken in a burglary, or cloned at a service. The real key on its own is not enough to drive away.

CAN Injection

Cutting in behind a headlight or wing to send commands to the car’s wiring. The Ghost 3 sits hidden on the network still demanding its PIN, so the injection gets them nowhere.

Fitting Day — What Happens

We come to you. Your car stays on your own drive or at your workplace — it never goes to a unit. The install takes a few hours, and we don’t cut the wiring loom, so your manufacturer warranty is unaffected.

When it’s done we set your PIN sequence with you, practise disarming it until it’s second nature, show you service mode for garage visits and the emergency procedure if you ever forget your code. You get your TASSA certificate for your insurer, and you deal with the installer directly for the life of the system.

Ghost 3 Immobiliser FAQs

How much is a Ghost 3 immobiliser fitted?

£499 supplied and fitted at your home or workplace — the same price as the Ghost II, with no call-out charge on top.

What’s the difference between the Ghost 3 and the Ghost 2?

The Ghost 3 supports CAN FD, the faster data network used on the newest vehicles, which the Ghost 2 can’t. Both are TASSA-approved, PIN-to-start immobilisers with no fob and no LED. If your car supports the Ghost 3, that’s the one we fit.

Is the Ghost 3 TASSA approved?

Yes. The Ghost 3 is TASSA-approved, and as TASSA Member No. 0009 every install we do is registered with certification for your insurer. It isn’t a Thatcham-category device — those categories cover alarms and trackers, not PIN-code immobilisers.

Will the Ghost 3 fit my car?

It fits a growing list of newer CAN FD vehicles, and older models usually take the Ghost II or Ghost Pro. Send us your registration and we’ll confirm which Ghost your car takes before you commit to anything.

Can I move the Ghost 3 to my next car?

In most cases, yes. Because it’s the current generation, the Ghost 3 has the best chance of being compatible with whatever you buy next. Ask us when you change vehicle and we’ll transfer it.

Is the Ghost 3 the same as the Ghost FD?

Yes — “Ghost FD” and “Ghost 3 FD” are the same CAN FD generation of the Ghost. If you’ve been quoted for any of these names, it’s this system.
