Keyless Theft is Rising Fast in Hertfordshire
Hertfordshire Constabulary recorded 1,698 vehicle thefts between April and December 2024 — up almost 12% year-on-year, and moving in the wrong direction far faster than the country as a whole. More than half of those cars were keyless-entry models, the majority taken from driveways overnight by organised gangs. Vehicle crime concentrates along the M25, A1(M) and M1 corridors, with Broxbourne (our own patch), Watford, Dacorum and Hertsmere among the worst-hit districts. A recent St Albans Crown Court case saw a gang jailed for stealing 25 Audis, BMWs and Mercedes by relay attack across the county.
