What Is ScorpionTrack?

ScorpionTrack is the vehicle tracking range from Scorpion Automotive, a British manufacturer based in Chorley, Lancashire that has been in vehicle security since 1973. They’re a Made in Britain member, and unusually for this industry the units are designed, manufactured and monitored in the UK — the control centre isn’t outsourced abroad.

The credential that tells you most about the engineering is who buys it at factory level: Scorpion supply original equipment security to Lotus, Aston Martin, Toyota, Honda, BMW Motorrad, Triumph and Yamaha. Manufacturers don’t approve aftermarket kit lightly, and they certainly don’t put it near a warranty claim unless it’s built properly.

The other reason we fit a lot of ScorpionTrack: the range has more rungs on the ladder than most. You can start at an S7, step up to an S5 with driver tags, add immobilisation, or go all the way to a Defender system that pairs the tracker with a Thatcham Category 2-1 alarm. That means we can usually match a budget without dropping to a brand we don’t rate.

The ScorpionTrack Range We Fit

Scorpion are one of the few manufacturers who use the term S5+ for their own product — their S5 with immobilisation. If your insurer has specified a category and you’re not sure which of these meets it, call us and read us the wording.

ScorpionTrack S7-ALS — Thatcham S7

The entry point into insurance-approved tracking. Live location, journey history, geofencing and tow-away alerts through the ScorpionTrack app, monitored 24/7 from the UK. The right choice where your policy asks for approved tracking without specifying S5.

ScorpionTrack S5-VTS — Thatcham S5

Adds ADR driver recognition tags. The tag goes on your keyring, and if the vehicle moves without one on board the monitoring centre knows instantly — even if the thief is holding your actual key. This is the tier insurers usually specify on prestige and high-value cars. Automatic immobilisation can be added as an upgrade, or there’s a smartphone Phone Tag option if you’d rather not carry a fob.

ScorpionTrack S5+ with Immobilisation — Thatcham S5

The strongest single unit in the range, and it immobilises two ways. Automatically — the engine won’t start without an authorised tag present, so no tag, no start. And remotely — the monitoring team can cut the engine mid-theft while the police close in. That combination is why this is our usual recommendation on cars that are actively targeted.

ScorpionTrack Quantum 3 — Thatcham S7, battery powered

Completely wire-free with around three years of battery life and an IP68 waterproof rating. Nothing to wire in means it goes where there’s no permanent power — caravans, trailers, plant, machinery, anything sitting in a yard. Unauthorised movement triggers a call from the monitoring team.

ScorpionTrack Defender — tracker plus Thatcham 2-1 alarm

Available in S7, S5 and S5+ versions, the Defender pairs the tracker with Scorpion’s CAN-bus alarm to Thatcham Category 2-1 standard. Tracking tells you where it’s gone; the alarm makes a scene before it goes anywhere. Worth considering if your insurer has asked for an alarm as well as tracking.

Is ScorpionTrack Thatcham approved?

Yes — the range covers Thatcham Category S5 and Category S7, and the Defender systems add a Thatcham Category 2-1 alarm. Worth knowing that Thatcham certification and insurer acceptance aren’t quite the same thing, so always tell your insurer exactly which category has been fitted.

What’s the difference between the S5-VTS and the S5+?

Both are Thatcham S5 with ADR driver tags. The S5-VTS tracks and alerts, with immobilisation available as an upgrade. The S5+ has immobilisation built in and does it two ways — automatically, so the engine won’t start without a tag, and remotely, so the monitoring team can stop the vehicle during a theft.

Does ScorpionTrack work in Europe?

Yes — European coverage is included as standard on the subscription, so you’re covered taking the vehicle abroad.

Do I have to pay a subscription?

Yes — it pays for the 24/7 UK monitoring centre, the police liaison and the SIM in the unit. Scorpion offer annual, multi-year and lifetime subscription options, the last of which can work out well if you keep vehicles a long time. Call us for current pricing on the system you need.
